It takes 3 components to accomplish a goal:
Mindset
Motivation
Methods
I already talked in more detail about
motivation and methods in previous episodes. But today I would like to put the mindset into
the spotlight and explore that with you.
“Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you are right”.
That’s a quote from Henry Ford. And he’s totally right. If your thoughts
towards your goal look like “it’s impossible to achieve! No way I can get there!”
Then, of course, you will quickly give up on it and didn’t even give it a try.
But if you are convinced that you can achieve what you want, you’ll keep going and
look out for solutions and opportunities. And eventually, find them. I mean, you haven’t
failed until you have decided to quit.
Well, of course, it’s easier said than done. It is really hard to keep faith. To keep
believing in your dream. To keep pursuing it - no matter how many challenges you’re facing
and how many pushbacks you’re experiencing.
Have you ever told a story, but you didn’t exactly remember how it went, so you kinda
made up some parts? And possibly also make it sound a bit more exciting? Then you told this
story over and over again to different people and all of a sudden, you start to really
believe that story - even some parts were just made up.
Exactly like this, we can trick our subconscious mind to get what we want. If you tell
yourself something over and over again you will start to believe that. And here it gets
crucial because this can go both sides. In a positive but also in a negative direction. But
one thing is clear, the goal is to work in your favor! It should help you to become a better
version of yourself.
A common way to strengthen your mind is meditation and using positive affirmations.
“Creating your future memories” is a method I would like to share with you:
I visualize
something I want to do and start to think about how I feel while doing this thing. I
visualize as many details as possible: How does the place look like where I achieve this
goal? Who are the people that are with me? How’s the weather like? Or even, what color is my
shirt that I’m wearing on this day?
As you can see, a lot of details. Your future memory has to feel as real as possible.
Your brain literally has to be confused - thinking this has already happened. That will
produce the feeling that it is possible.
Napoleon Hill puts it best by saying “Whatever The Mind Can Conceive And
Believe, The Mind Can Achieve”. In other words, if you deeply believe in your dream, you can
make it happen. If you’re absolutely convinced that it will come true, then you will find a
way to achieve it.
I know sometimes you lose faith and you question yourself. That might happen because
you got pushback and something didn’t work out as planned. Or you talked to someone and this
person’s opinion brought up doubts. I mean, come on! This is the worst! Don’t let other
people’s opinions lead your life!
However, if any of this happens, it’s important to return to your core values. Why did
you set yourself this goal in the first place? Coming back to your purpose makes you
understand, why you put in all this effort, and you will accomplish your goal.
Believe me guys, I have to do this over and over and over again. But only like this I
can stay on track and keep up my motivation.
